The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) says as at Monday Oct. 4th, Nigeria had vaccinated 4,963,985 eligible persons across the country with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccines.
It said this figure represents 4.4% of the targeted 111,776,503 eligible population.
It said about 2,166,186 people have received their second doses of the vaccines which means that approximately 1.9% of eligible population is now fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
At a press briefing on Tuesday in Abuja on the update of vaccination in the country, the Executive Director of the NPHCDA Dr. Faisal Shuaib said it is imperative to reiterate the fact that only those who have taken their second dose are fully protected against the deadly COVID-19.
He urge all eligible persons of 18 years and above who are yet to be vaccinated to visit any of our vaccination sites, register and receive COVID-19 vaccine.
He said those who have received their first dose of either AstraZeneca or Moderna should check their cards for due dates and proceed to get their second doses.
Dr. Shuaib urge Nigerians continue to observe all measures to prevent further spread of COVID-19 in the country.
