The Federal Government has taken delivery of 501,600 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines donated by the Government of France to Nigeria through the COVAX facility.
It said France has not only been a dependable development ally to Nigeria but has been quite brotherly in all ramifications.
The Executive Director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) Dr. Faisal Shuaib said this on Friday in Abuja while taking delivery of the vaccines.
He said the donation is a demonstration of France confidence in Nigeria’s capability as an active and progressive partner in the global fight to end the COVID-19 pandemic.
He assured that Nigeria’s vaccine storage facilities have remained efficient and well maintained noting that no standards are compromised in logistics requirements for effective management and utilization of all COVID-19 vaccines available in the country.
Dr. Shuaib further said the federal government has in place the necessary measures to ensure monitoring and accountability of the vaccines.
He said they track utilization of all COVID-19 vaccines in all states of the Federation and receive daily report from Senior Supervisors and State Immunization officers who are on the field to monitor the management and administration of the vaccines.
The Executive Director reiterated the fact that the Federal Government is committed to safe, equitable and effective COVID-19 vaccination of all eligible persons in the country.
He assured that they will continue to work with development partners and engage with all stakeholders to sustain transparency in the country’s vaccination program.
He further said that they are also committed to fighting misinformation and disinformation with continued support from professional mass media community.
He said that they have been engaging with communities using the lessons learnt from polio eradication to ensure only true and verified information are shared and this has helped with increase in COVID-19 vaccines uptake across the country.
The French Ambassador to Nigeria Jérôme Pasquier in his remark said President Emmanuel Macron is aware of the necessity to make vaccines available to everyone all over the world.
He said despite the fact that there have been discrepancies in vaccination between the Northern countries and Africa, Africa has been dealing very well with the pandemic.
He however said vaccination is very essential if we must deal with the pandemic adding that though the COVID-19 has made things difficult but it serve as an opportunity to develop a strong health system.
He assured of his Government support to continuously assist Nigeria and Africa in tackling the pandemic to a halt
