NHIS, Most Visible and Widely Available Vehicle of Govt – Minister

The Federal Government says the National Health Insurance Scheme is clearly the most visible and widely available vehicle of government, carefully put together by way of legislation to achieve this lofty ideas.

The Minister of State for Health Dr. Olorunnimbe Mamora said this on Friday at the 2021 Managed Healthcare Stakeholders Summit and Award held in Abuja with the Theme: Managed Healthcare, a Worthwhile Health Related Policy and Culture.

According to the Minister, the manage health care is an arrangement that integrates both financing and health care services delivery to guarantee availability, cost effectiveness and quality of care in Nigeria.

He said it is commendable that businesses concerned and government do their utmost best to provide health care to their employees in a manner that ensures a win win situation of employees ultimate productivity and peace of mind and employer bottom line maximisation.

Dr. Mamora said that no doubt a summit like this will keep the indispensable subject of Health Care delivery in all ramifications constantly on the front burner of public and governmental Discourse.

He therefore expressed hope that with the improvement in the managed healthcare system, Universal Health Coverage, relevant measurable outcomes of the Sustainable Development Goals and our national indicies would have been positively impacted to the benefit of the citizenry.

On his part, the Medical Director of the Federal Medical Center (FMC) Prof Saad Ahmed who reeled out some of the achievements of the hospital, said they have improved on their services to the enrolee of the Universal Health Coverage.

He disclosed that they have also expanded their physical infrastructure whereby they have more clinic spaces adding that they will keep increasing to accommodate more people.

Prof. Ahmed further revealed that they are advocating a better platform to bring all Nigerians into the scheme.

He said they have platforms like the Medical Indigent fund where by they take care of indigent patient through the medical and social welfare department and they engage in medical outreach from time to time.
