NIGERIA’S 699,760 DOSES OF ASTRAZENECA FROM THE UK GOVT. EXPIRES IN SEPTEMBER

ERHIRE WRITES FROM ABUJA:

THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT ON TUESDAY AUGUST SEVENTEENTH, RECEIVED A SECOND BATCH OF ASTRAZENECA VACCINES FROM THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT, TOTALING 699,760 DOSES.

SPEAKING AT THE OFFICIAL HANDING OVER OF THE VACCINES IN ABUJA, THE BRITISH HIGH COMMISSIONER TO NIGERIA, GILL ATKINSON ASKED THE GOVERNMENT TO MAKE HASTE WITH THE USAGE, AS THE VACCINES
LIFESPAN IS IN LESS THAN SIX WEEKS.

ACCORDING TO HER, THE VACCINES WILL EXPIRE BY THE END OF SEPTEMBER, WHICH IS JUST SIX WEEKS AWAY.

HOWEVER, THE VACCINES WILL NOT BE DEPLOYED UNTIL THE NATIONAL AGENCY FOR FOOD AND DRUGS
ADMINISTRATION AND CONTROL (NAFDAC) RE-CERTIFIES THIE SHIPMENT OF ASTRAZENECA, DESPITE HAVING ROLLED OUT OVER FOUR MILLION DOSES OF THE VACCINE IN MARCH.
