The all stakeholders international conference on COVID-19 has brought to fore, strategies and ideas for handling future pandemic in a way that is ethical, transparent, Inclusive for the benefit of humanity.
The conference which was organized by NIPRD is the first of its kind to develop a solution strategy paper and communiqué that would guide government, development partners and other critical stakeholders in pandemic situations.
According to the DG/CEO of NIPRD Dr. Obi Adigwe in his remarks, the aim is to mitigate the challenges in various diverse yet interrelated areas, including supply chain disruption, commodity security, food security socio-cultural security, national security, socio-religious relations, unemployment, deployment of palliatives for citizens supports, R&D funding.
Adigwe added that the intitative is also intended towards finding a cure, which has led the institute as part of its R&D response, to convene a National Scientific Advisory Committee to develop a standard Verification and Validation Protocol, to save citizens from harmful toxic effects of unsafe and ineffective products.
Adigwe said Similar to this proactive intervention, NIPRD is leading its peers in contextual healthcare solutions by developing cutting edge interventions that will dominate the African landscape over the next two decades.
These according to him, include: the Contextual Processing Protocol; Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient/Excipients development; Establishment of Africa’s first Nanomedicine Laboratory and Training Programme; Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Drug Discovery and Health Solution provision.
The DG however expressed optimism that with With the right partnership on the project, Nigeria would emerge Africa’s phytomedicines and drug manufacturing hub.
the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD) was established with a clear mandate to conduct research and development of pharmaceuticals, vaccines, drugs, phytomedicines, diagnostics and processes for the advancement of health and benefit of mankind.
The Conference theme “Assuring Health Access and Socio-Economic Development beyond COVID-19” has been well conceptualized to address the current challenges as well as look into future scenarios.
