The Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria has advocated for the shutting down of all substandard medical laboratories in the country for Nigeria to move forward.
It has also called for the need to make accreditation compulsory for all medical laboratories operating in the Nigeria.
The National President of the Association Prof. James Damen who made the call on Tuesday in Abuja at the official presentation of certificate to Clina-Lancet Laboratories said patient deserve quality services hence the need to shut down all substandard medical laboratories.
He urge all medical laboratories operators to maintain quality in all services rendered to patients in the country.
According to him, medical tourism is on the rise due to the state of laboratories in the country offering low quality medical investigations.
He lamented the fact that Nigeria ranks 181 out of 183 countries in ISO accreditation for medical laboratories.
Prof. Damen said while the association strongly frown against quackery, it also frowns at laboratories that do not give quality services.
He called on the Federal government to force all laboratories in the country to be accredited while urging laboratories in Nigeria to key into national and international accreditation.
