The Federal government says over the last four weeks, about 3,141,795 million persons have been tested for COVID-19 using either PCR or RDT.
It said while the trend of infection shows decline in some states other States are still experiencing increase in confirmed cases.
The Minister of Health Dr. Osagie Ehanire disclosed this on Monday at a Press briefing on the update of the COVID-19 Pandemic Response and Health Sector Development in Abuja,
Dr. Ehanire said as at Sunday, 17th October, 2021 the reports from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control revealed that about 209,299 Nigerians have tested positive to the virus, 197,143 people have been treated and discharged, while 2,756 have lost their lives.
He said statistics generated by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) indicates that as at 17th October, 2021, a total of 5,337,635 eligible populations have received the first dose of the vaccine.
He said this represents 4.8 percent of Nigeria’s target population while 2,665,173 have been vaccinated with the second dose signifying 2.4 percent of the target vaccination of 70 percent of the population by 2022.
The Minister encouraged Nigerians who received the vaccines to complete the second doses while urging all Nigerians that are eligible to avail themselves to receive the vaccines.
